Updates - Fall 2025

November 3, 2025

During our first few months post-launch, we have been working hard to improve the Indie platform and are ready to share some exciting updates!

Refreshed Screen Designs and Mobile Improvements

Indie goes live

Being an early-stage platform left plenty of room for improvement in terms of user experience and interface design. This has resulted in many updates across every screen on the platform. These updates aim to improve navigation, interaction, and visual appeal, making it easier for users to find what they need. In addition to screen design updates, there have also been significant improvements made to the mobile experience. Recognizing that many users access platforms via their mobile devices, layouts for smaller screens have been highly optimized.

Cross-Border Payouts Removed

Indie previously offered split payouts that supported cross-border transactions. This feature was created for scenarios where any of the receivers of a split payout may have been in a different country than the event organizer. Indie relies on Stripe for all financial transactions including cross-border payouts, which are only supported if the platform base currency is always USD. This means that any events created outside of the USA would incur a 2% currency conversion fee on each ticket sale. After careful consideration, support for cross-border payouts has been removed in order to avoid these fees for Indie users. Understanding this may be disappointing for some users, but we believe it is in the best interest of our community to maximize earnings for independent artists, promoters, and venues by removing any unnecessary fees. The good news is that Indie still supports split payouts for events where all parties are in the same country as the event organizer. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding.

Open Events and Performance Requests

The Indie platform aspires to transform the independent music landscape through the delivery of innovative features that enable connections between artists, fans, promoters, and venues. As part of this endeavor, we are excited to announce the upcoming launch of two new features: Open Events and Performance Requests.

Open Events allow artists, promoters, or venues to schedule events in the future, allowing artists to submit Performance Requests before the event is finalized. The Open Event creator then has the ability to accept performance requests from artists and assign them to a timeslot for the event. These new features enable artists to easily discover booking opportunities, while streamlining the booking process for venues. We are excited to be releasing these features in the near future, and hope they will enhance the overall experience for everyone involved.

Instant Event

The classic event creation process now lives under "Instant Event". This should be used if you know all event details during event creation, including the artists who will be performing.

Event Builder

The new Event Builder experience allows any artist, promoter, or venue user type to create an Open Event. This enables other artists on the platform to submit performance requests for the event. Each performance request can then be accepted or declined by the event creator.

Request to Perform

After creating an Open Event, artists will be able to submit Performance Requests for the event directly on the event organizers page.

Manage Open Event

The event creator can manage performance requests from artists within the Manage Open Event screen. This includes reviewing, accepting, declining, and scheduling Performance Requests, ensuring that the event lineup is curated to their preference.
